Tuesday, June 18, 2013: There are 12 bills on the House Agenda today, none more controversial than Senate Bill 97. The legislation seeks to add the term "gender identity" to the already-existing list of prohibited practices of discrimination in the areas of housing, employment, public works contracting, public accommodations and insurance. The bill is aimed at Delaware's transgendered population -- estimated at about 2,800 -- who identify their gender based on factors other than their assigned biological sex.
There are also two bills -- HB 36 (Rep. Briggs-King) & HB 73 (Rep. Mitchell) -- that would increase penalties against those people who are prohibited from possessing a gun, but do so anyway.
